Prevent, Detect, and Respond
Bilateral Partners Engaged

Algeria

On January 9, 2012, NSOI began its engagement with the Government of Algeria with a meeting in Algiers to discuss strengthening the U.S.-Algerian partnership to combat nuclear smuggling.

During the meeting, the delegations discussed Algeria’s current capabilities to prevent, detect, and respond to nuclear smuggling attempts, as well as potential ways in which the two governments could collaborate to increase those capabilities.  The discussions were fruitful, and NSOI plans to return to Algeria soon to negotiate a joint action plan to strengthen Algeria’s capabilities as well as an agreed set of projects to support implementation of the joint action plan.
