DETAILS OF ASSISTANCE BEING PROVIDED TO NSOI-DEVELOPED PROJECTS

CanadaCANADA

Canada provided assistance through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to improve the Government of Ukraine’s detection capability at the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. The Canadian contribution funded acquisition and installation of radiation detection and other equipment needed to outfit two border crossings, as well as training for personnel handling the equipment. This also included portable radiation detection equipment and training for border guards monitoring the green border – those border areas in that region between official points of entry.

Canada is expanding its border security assistance in Ukraine in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Second Line of Defense program. Canadian assistance will fund acquisition and installation of radiation detection and other equipment needed to outfit the main international airport in Kyiv, as well as training for personnel handling the equipment. Depending on the final cost of equipping the airport, Canada may contribute to equipping other points of entry.

NOTE: This page describes only those assistance efforts that correspond to projects developed by NSOI. For a comprehensive description of each country’s or organization’s full program of anti-nuclear smuggling assistance, please contact that government or organization.
