NSOI is a U.S. government effort to enhance international partnerships to combat smuggling of nuclear and radioactive materials.

DETAILS OF ASSISTANCE BEING PROVIDED TO NSOI-DEVELOPED PROJECTS

NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand is providing funding through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Second Line of Defense program to improve the Government of Ukraine’s detection capability at the Ukrainian-Russian border. The New Zealand contribution is funding provision of radiation detection and all other equipment needed to outfit a vehicle crossing on the border, as well as equipment installation and related training.

New Zealand has also provided similar funding to improve the government of Kazakhstan’s border detection capability. The New Zealand contribution to Kazakhstan will fund provision of equipment similar to that provided to Ukraine.
